Coach's Welcome Letter
My name is Sofie Green, and I am proud to be the U22 head coach this year.

I am excited to return to the U22 bench for the 2025 season. In 2023, I served as the assistant coach for the U17 girls team, where we finished in the Top 5 in the A Division at provincials, and in 2024, I was the assistant coach for the U22 Girls Team, which also placed in the Top 5 in the A Division at provincials. I am deeply passionate about lacrosse and committed to growing the game by sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm with others. Having the privilege of working with the Capital Region Axemen and the Ottawa Black Bears, I am developing a strong connection to the sport and its community, always striving to enhance the experience for players and fans alike. I began playing lacrosse in 2008/2009 and was part of the early years of the Nepean Knights Girls Competitive Program. During my time as a player, I won four provincial titles and three silver medals, alongside many incredible alumni who continue to give back to the program.

My coaching philosophy centers on building trust and respect with athletes, creating a positive, inclusive environment where every player feels valued and empowered. I am dedicated to helping U22 girls compete at their highest level while growing their lacrosse skills, personal growth, and teamwork. My goal is to challenge players, foster sportsmanship, and inspire a lifelong passion for the game.

With the season quickly approaching, please see the information below regarding the U22 Competitive Girls Lacrosse season.

Competitive Lacrosse:

The U22 Competitive Girls team holds practices every Tuesday night in Manotick from 8:30 to 10:30 PM. The season runs from the second-to-last week of April until the second week of August. As part of our regular season Zone 5 games, we will be competing against the Gloucester Griffins and Akwesasne Storm. Additionally, we may travel in July to play teams in preparation for provincials. The team will also attend two away tournaments: Kitchener-Waterloo from May 23-25 and Whitby from June 20-22, with Provincials taking place in Whitby from August 5-7. The Knights organization has a board member who arranges hotel room blocks for all tournaments. Last year, competitive team fees were approximately $375 per player.

Tryouts for the team will be held on Tuesday April 22nd at the Manotick Arena from 8:30-10:30 PM. Full equipment including a mouthguard is required. If you (or your athlete) are interested in trying out for the team please complete this Google Form.  Regardless of playing experience I strongly encourage players to try out for the team. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Other Notes:

If you are unsure which catchment you fall under, please reach out to  [email protected] they can walk you through the process of getting a release if your association does not offer a team.

We are going to be hosting 2 Come Try Lacrosse sessions at Bell Centennial Arena.  April 5 at 1pm or April 6 at 12 pm. If you know someone interested or have a friend looking to try lacrosse this is a great opportunity. It is also a great chance to get a stick in your hands before the season starts. All that is needed is a helmet with a hockey/lacrosse cage, running shoes and gloves if you have them. We will have sticks to use if needed.

Please find below a message from the NKMLA Board:

Welcome to the 2025 lacrosse season. The Nepean Knights Minor Lacrosse Association is happy to have you join this year’s competitive tryout process. The Board would like to provide you with some important details that may ease the process along the way. To begin, we invite you to review our Tryout Process page on our website. This outlines the standard process your player will follow and also lists some requirements. We encourage you to review the required equipment and have your player try on their last year’s equipment ahead of time to ensure it fits. No player will be allowed to step onto the floor and tryout unless they are properly equipped.

Members of the Board will be at tryouts and available to you if you have any questions. We will also have competitive clothing available for your player to try on so you can order the right sizing should your player make a competitive team. We ask that you have your player do a “fit check” on day 1 of their tryout.

The tryout process can be intense and riddled with emotions. As a Board, we recognize how difficult this can be for some players/families. We respect all feelings and encourage you to reach out to the Board when needed, however, we ask everyone to respect the 24-hr rule. This means taking the time step away and consider the message you would like to send before doing so. We will make ourselves available to you for discussions on any topic at that point.

If you have general questions regarding the competitive program, coaches, or the Association, please feel free to contact your respective Competitive Director below, our Coach Mentor, and/or President and Vice President.

We look forward to seeing you all on the floor and running another great season with our Knights Family.
